Purple Iris

As dusk settles into night,
I lie in the cool grass
And stare at the clouds
Wrapped in their dark
Starry, blanket.

A warm breeze runs its fingers
Through my hair.
Brushes up against me,
And whispers secrets in my ear.

Crickets and cicadas
Begin their nighttime duet.
The wind holds me close
As we dance between
Good times past.

A wave upon the sea of grass,
Takes my hand,
Entwines its fingers with mine,
And leads me into the night.

The rushes near the river
Take up their baleful song.
The field presses gently up against me
As we dance through
Sorrow, peace, and joy.

A ripple in the water
Pulls me close
Into a simple kiss and
Tenderly embraces me.

The water swirling in my ear
Sounds like the sweetest song.
The water holds me perfectly still
As we dance out of
Life and into blissful existence.

As night settles into dawn
It removes its starry blanket,
And quietly lays it down
Upon us where we lie.
